Just Like Betty Crocker, But Not

I love to cook. That does not mean that anything I make is palatable or turns out properly, but I love creating meals for my family.

Today I needed something simple. Something easy to throw in the crock pot so I wouldn't have to think about dinner until it was time to eat it. I have been terribly lazy about feeding my family lately, so I thought today I would make a feeble attempt at a little planning.

We had ribs in the freezer, and as we have not had them in a while it seemed to be a good idea.

To go along with the ribs, I thought I would make gnocchi. From scratch.

I came across a recipe a few weeks back that looked fairly straightforward and thought it would be fun to try. It might sound a bit strange, pairing ribs and gnocchi, but I am so tired of straight-up rice and potatoes. I thought this would be a fun way to shake things up a bit, and dude, you aren't at my house to bitch about the menu so shut it.

This morning I took the ribs out of the freezer and threw them in the crock pot.

Except they were still frozen.

Which meant the cover wouldn't fit. No biggie.

That's what aluminum foil is for.

And that is how I cooked them.

So, Betty Crocker I am not. Her edgy second cousin who cooks with a martini in one hand and an mp3 player on her hip? Perhaps.

Note From the Kitchen: Yes, eventually the ribs thawed so I could get the regular lid on. Can you tell I have done this before?

we must be related because thats exactly how i cook adding on that most of the time i'm reading a recipe off the screen of my laptop.

i also have to add that i love your foil method. seriously. i would have just kept the foil on too. why dirty the lid and have to take the time and trouble to wash the lid when the foil was already in place?!?!

I almost wet my pants after reading this post!

Foil? On a crock pot? You're a freaking genius.

How did the gnocchi turn out? I SOOOOO love that stuff - so does Buddha.

Now that? Is creative!

I would have never thought of that. You should win a blue ribbon for most creative use of tin foil!

Betty Crocker? Uppity Bitch.

You, on the other hand are keeping it real. Chunky ribs....mmmmmmmm.

AND gnocci? This sounds positively feast-like after our dinner of chicken wings and salad-in-a-bag!

Ribs and Gnocchi...sounds like a dish you would get in a down-home, upscale restaurant in Dallas.

Long live the crock pot! I couldn't live without mine.

OK, mental note. If we ever find ourselves in your neck of the woods and we manage to get a dinner invitation, I must remember to suggest eating out...

@HollyStar: Yeah, all my recipes are online, too. I have them on my family website, or if not, I look up all kinds of groovy ones online.

@Buddha_Girl: Glad I could assist in a near-pissing. :) I was not too impressed with the gnocchi. Hubbie loved them, so I will DEF make them again. I guess bc I don't know what they are supposed to taste like? I think I might have to buy some premade ones at the store to compare.

@Momma: If you thought THAT was blue ribbon, you should see my oven.

@Gypsy: Somehow "how innovative" strikes me as meaning how redneck? :)

@BvB: I love me some salad-in-a-bag. Esp. if it is Caesar. I am so fucking lazy.

@K-Mom: My thoughts exactly! Kind of like Italian Meets Southern.

@CiF: Dude! Aren't you from Missouri or something? I would think crock pots and tin foil would bring waves of nostalgia. ;)
