This past Sunday we attended a birthday party for a little girl in my son's preschool class. The parents hired a band to come and play. It isn't the sort of thing I would ever have considered doing, but this family has the means and the motivation so more power to them.
This particular group of musicians is a popular local band that cater to the preschool crowd. We have seen them around town and have enjoyed them. My children were too shy last year to handle the crowds in the coffee shop, so this this party was kind of the like the first time all over again. My daughter? When ballistic. She danced. She hopped around. She spun in circles until she was sweaty and exhausted, the lone participant in her own private mosh pit. As the guys finished and packed up their instruments, LittleBird told them she wanted them to come to her party and play. The guys were very diplomatic and very sweet in the face of her enthusiasm. She chattered on, making arrangements as only a four and a half year old can. My mom will call you! she said, She's the one with the blue toes.
All heads turned to look at me.
And I grinned, sheepish in my flip-flop crocs with my metallic blue toe nail polish glinting in the evening light. I'll have my people call your people, I laughed. They nodded, grinned and waved at me as they left.
I am sure my kids will refer to me in many different way in the years to come. For now, I am downright pleased to be known as The Mom With the Blue Toes.

Anaheim, CA - 41 years ago: referred to my Mom as the one with the red toes! Bonus: got to "help" her paint them ... I was STOKED! Helping Mommy with BIG GIRL stuff!
Now you get to find out how good of a memory your daughter has when her birthday draws near...
If I was a girl, I'd totally paint my toenails. As it is, I'll just have to suffice with blandness.
This is great stuff!
I painted mine a sparkling black not long ago. Butter loved it!
I'm glad Little Bird's got great taste in polish as well as dance moves!
Best Mom Title Ever!
Brilliant! You've written it so I can just see it all.
Sounds like you're having a band at your next birthday party, Blue Toes.
That's kind of adorable.
That is just awesome. Now that it's your trademark, you'll always have to have blue toes. :)
@lisa: That is so cool! And I love that you remember that memory!
@Joe: My son loves having blue toenails, too. I say go for it!
@WishyWashy: Yeah, my mom used to be appalled by the blue polish. I think she's over it now. At least the eye-rolling has stopped.
@faemom: I agree!
@Patois: Thank you! One of the reasons I love blogging--to keep up my writing skills.
@AFreeMan: I will use my Master Mom Manipulation skills to focus her attention elsewhere.
@Gypsy: Except for the fact that I hate being the center of attention, I thought it was pretty damned adorable, too.
@CMGD: That's a trademark I can live with!
