Ya'll Ready For This?

Here they are. The long awaited photos and critique of our new digs.

The verdict? Love it! LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

This does not mean the house is perfect. Far from it. There are many issues to be dealt with, but I think this is going to be a very fun rental property. Depending if our landlady works with us rather than against us, that is.

Sit down, put on your shades because here are the pics. Click on them for the larger photo. You just can't get the detail unless you blow the damn thing up.

The Dining Area
Who in the world thought this was a good idea? Contrary to the opinion of some I do not care for pink. At all. All I can say is thank god this was sponge-painted on. It is NOT wallpaper, so I do not have to peel that shit off. Hallelujah.

The Kitchen
I did not take a photo of the whole kitchen, just the key issue. Here is the "backsplash". I use quotation marks because when I say it aloud I actually put my hands up and bend my fingers when I say "backsplash". Why? Oh, my dear reader. I thought you would never ask. The kitchen has contact paper for a backsplash. The. Entire. Length. Of. The. Wall.

The Necessarium
In honor of CMGD's Burt Reynolds 'Stache post, I use my favorite euphemism for the bathroom. I once saw a decorative porcelain plaque on a bathroom door using this term. Being a sucker for all things Roman, I was immediately smitten.

Here is my Necessarium. The Toilet/Sink Combo. I cannot even find the words to describe the color. It isn't turquoise. It isn't mint green. It is something in between. Maybe Frankenstein Green? Is that a color? Do I need to call HGTV for a reference? Either way, I am so going out and buying a black toilet seat cover to match.

Here is a close-up of the sink for your viewing pleasure. Hubbie is a numb-nut. He said the faucet/handles came out of the wall. He is so full of shit. If we wanted to replace this, we totally could. But then it wouldn't match my toilet and shower. That just wouldn't do.

The Shower. Oooh-la-la. Check out the fancy black trim. I am going to have a helluva time finding a shower curtain to go with this, but I will have fun trying. I think it would be cool to paint the window sill black to match the trim and my soon-to-be-purchased black toilet seat cover. I don't think Hubbie would go for that.

The Washer Closet
I can't say the Laundry Area because the dryer is on the other side of the fucking house. More evidence of drunken blueprinting. I would love to call this area the WC for short, but then I would be afraid my British friends would go and take a shit in my laundry tub.

Wait for it. Wait for it. I opened the washer. Yeah. Un-fucking acceptable. How Hubbie freaked out about the green sink and not the GIGANTIC RUSTED RAGGEDY HOLE in the washer is beyond me.

The Paint Job
The pictures of my paint job didn't turn out all that great. We bought very dark beige/brown to put up, but it looks orange in the photos. Figures.

I just couldn't resist.

So there you have it. The first installation of what I am sure will be many home improvement adventures. Thanks for tuning in. Catch you next time for the next episode of Charming Houses of Virginia.

Oh. My. God. That bathroom is just . . . just . . . wow. Yeah. Just wow.

I do love the light on the wall by the washer. Perfect angle to shine a little light on that rust spot.

How in the heck does a washer rust out in a spot like that? Did someone pour acid on it or something?

Looks like you have a lot of work in front of you. Hope it becomes a warm and cozy home soon!

Wow. My old washer looked better even after all the sledgehammer dents.

And? Here's my bathroom idea. Get a mint-green liner and clear curtain. Then, paint mint Oreos on the curtain. Oh, yeah! Do it up right, baby! ;-)

Honey, that is Mental Hospital Green. There. Saved you a call to HGTV. Get a white shower curtain and be done with it. Those old Art Deco colors ain't comin' back anytime soon! ;-)

And Oh. My. God. Contact paper for a "backsplash"??? I would have splayed my fingers away from it, too, and my upper lip would undoubtedly curl!

I think you're going to need some shelving in that bathroom, too. No place to put ANYTHING!

Enjoy making it into a home, nevertheless.

Peace - D

@Jayna: Yes, I thought the spotlight was a sweet touch. There is one in the living room, too. I have yet to figure out that to do with that.

@CMGD: I could probably use your old washer at this point! Love the oreo idea, but that would make me snacky every time I went pee.

@Momma: Oh damn, D!! Don't DO that to me! I do NOT want to walk in that bathroom thinking of a mental hospital every time! LOL I am going to take your picture next to that sink when you come to visit.

HAH HAH HAH HAH! Oh I feel so much better about my Rental Houses I Have Known. But I can still top you with the house my mom bought.

It had a padded bedroom, and another room with electric flamingo pink carpet... with black walls.

That bathroom is CLASSIC. And if you tell me its one of the old Hylton homes? I shall chortle madly and offer you wine.

I fucking wrote a LONG ASS comment, and blogger immediately ate it. I hate that.

And I'm too lazy to rewrite now.

Suffice to say that I will kill the bastard who put up the contact paper for the BACKSPLASH. Mine's tumbled marble, compliments of HG. I should send his ass to your place with strict orders to make it happen for ya!

a) I'm so glad you love it! I was a little worried you wouldn't.

b) I'm so jealous you don't have to peal wallpaper, but I forgive you since you have to peel off contact paper - from the wall... LOL!

c) My, that sure is green! One of my few memories from living in GA (I was born there) was of our kitchen that came complete with appliances it this color.

Have fun making the house yours!

That bathroom would actually be a dream to decorate. How fun!!!

I love your spirit. And the house has a sense of humor. That has to be a good thing.

SUCH potential! I love the retro bathroom. I'm sure you can make this work. You'll have to, of course, show the after pictures, once everything is moved in & painted - that will make all the difference in the world. The washer though... There's retro, then there's vintage, then there's just plain ewww. Let's hope your new landlady shares your vision for safety and hygiene.

Hey, I'm loving your glass half full attitude - tongue in cheek or anywhere else. Enjoy the D.I.Y.

OMG! I love the GREEN! Seriously!

I had a friend in Lake Worth that had a pink tile/sink/toilet bathroom with black trim...same era I bet!

As far as the rusty hole, that's where the bleachy thing goes right? So, maybe, um...no, I've got nothin'! LOL

I vote for painting the trim in the bathroom black too (or maybe a black cafe curtain?)

I do love it so! LOL
