Rainy Days and Mondays

Well it's Monday, and boy has it rained. In my house.

In my utility closet, to be more precise.

Hubbie took a shower this morning and was surprised that we had such little hot water. We ran the washer a lot yesterday. Due to the whole puking incident, don't ya know. But that was last night. The water heater should have refreshed itself by now, right?

He checks in front of the washer. The floor is damp. Hmmmmm.

He opens the utility closet to find a lake. Oh yes. Our water heater apparently went to appliance heaven.

The upshot of all of this is that our landlord was at our door within fifteen minutes. He took a look, determined that it was indeed the tank and said we'd have a new and more efficient water heater by early afternoon. He was happy it was such a simple fix.

The downside to all of this is that we have two illegal cats. We spent the time between the phone call and his showing up at our door hiding all evidence of their hairy existence. They are now locked upstairs in our guest room, and we are praying that no one is going to notice them or the giant hairballs we have been trying to find and throw away. Damn those little fuckers really shed.

So in sum, I have no hot water, pissed off cats, and soaked carpets. But my coffee maker is working, LittleBird's ballet class was adorable and this whole mess in on the downstairs level so LittleMan isn't climbing around in nasty water. Things could definitely be worse! As long as my landlord doesn't figure out that we have cats we are golden.

Oh I remember the days of hiding the cats in the second bedroom in a 2-bedroom apartment when they came once a year to turn on the air conditioning.

I have to believe those cats screamed and meowed while we were at work and the guy was doing his thing to the closet.

But we never got in trouble.

Good luck!

Yeah, I'm there with you. We had two illegal cats in our apartment as well. Good luck and glad the water heater damage wasn't worse. We've been in our house for 7 years and I'm just waiting for our water heater to die on us.

Are they going to replace your carpet, too? Because I'm thinking new carpet and a new water heater would make the inconvenience ok.
