Where I Am and Where I Need To Be

Where I Am:

Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry

I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind a cloud
To hide its face and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves began to die?
That means he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Where I Need To Be:

There's no room in my heart for the blues
Love is satisfied to either win or lose
Darlin', if our pathways part, let there be no broken hearts
There's no room in my heart for the blues

There's no room in my life for a sigh
We'll be strong enough to face our last goodbye
Darlin', if our romance ends, let us part the best of friends
There's no room in my heart for the blues

There's no room in my memory for tears
We'll let bygones be forgotten souvenirs
If your hungry heart forgets, let there be no sad regrets
There's no room in my heart for the blues

There's no room in my life for a sigh
We'll be strong enough to face our last goodbye
Darlin' if our romance ends let us be the best of friends
There's no room in my heart for the blues

Wow. Did you write this? Amazing.

I'm sort of afraid to comment because maybe this is a famous poem that everyone else knows about but me, but whatev. It's gorgeous and true and jaw droppingly right the eff on.

"Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves began to die?
That means he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry"

This is exactly how I feel right now. I can't seem to shake it. I'm just...as much as someone can make fun of me for saying this...lonely. I want to be social and I feel like I have so much room right now for friendships and company and love and everything else fantastic, but the space is sort of empty-ish and I echo when I try to say something. It's a hard state from which to emerge with sanity and an open heart. I'm with you, sister.

Man, we all need to be there.

Who wrote that second song? It seems familiar but I can't pin it down.

@Titanium: It's Hanks Williams. Hard to believe, isn't it? I am not a fan of country music at all. But Hank is an exception because he was a phenomenal lyricist. I really think this man wrote a song for every situation. Happy or sad. And you are right, the verse you quoted kills me every time.

(Also, check out the lyrics to Weary Blues (From Waiting). Esp. since you live in a snowy area.)

@AFM: Same guy. It's amazing what a guy in Alabama in the 40s churned out.

You answered my question before I could ask it! You are amazing :)

I read, abstained from comment, read again, and just couldn't formulate anything except... a resounding, "Me, too."

I grew up listening to him. (He was one of my father's favorites.) Hated it at the time. Love it today.
