Make Mine Scattered, Smothered and Covered

Being in ATL for a few weeks has given me the opportunity to catch up on a few of my favorite eats. One I have not indulged in, probably since my college days, was a late night Waffle House run.

It is so cliche it almost isn't worth mentioning, but a good friend of mine works for the fire department, and he's about the only person I know who is up for a greasy plate of goodness in the middle of the night.

When we made our plans, I told him to make sure he asked for his wife's permission. I did that as a dig because I knew he'd get all blustery about "asking" his wife for "permission". I also did it as a CYA. I have met his wife several times and we've gotten along very well, but you just never know. I have made it my goal in life to never be involved in any drama that involves Waffle House in the subject matter.

So we met up tonight, had our mugs of coffee and giant platters of scattered, smothered and covered. Sitting in a Waffle House with a man wearing an emergency services uniform gets you lots of smiles and frequent coffee refills. It was a little slice of heaven.

And chunked! You gots to have the chunks.

God, I love Waffle House. Next time I'm in FLA, I'm there.

Actually, I had it topped. :) I have a weird thing about ham and cheese together, but chili goes on everything.

The closest thing we have is an IHOP. There used to be a Waffle House south of here, right along the free, but they closed up shop about a month ago. Sad . . .

That is a slice of love. There is NOTHING like a Waffle House. When I was in college, I would meet my little sister halfway between our colleges, late at night, and we'd eat and study together. Most excellent memory booster here!
