The Island of Reason in the Land of the Loonies

If everyone around you seems to be crazy, does that make you a person who is perceptive and can cut through the bullshit? Or does that mean that you are actually the crazy one, and everyone else is on an even keel?

I feel like the majority of the conversations I had today left me feeling like the island of reason in the land of the loonies. This is why I hate drama, gossip and knowing things that others do not. I have to sit and listen to someone drone on and on about a situation that I know is a lie, or that is a half-baked truth. I have to sit and listen knowing that even if I wanted to enlighten them, it would make no difference at all.

This is why I have few girl friends. If anyone tried to tell me that being an adult would involve the same levels of gossip and petty behaviour as a high school hallway I would have thought they were crazy. Which I suppose is case in point. When the crazy one turns out to be the prophet. Leave me on my island, people. I don't want no part of it.

Isn't it crazy how many people are stuck in high school? I went to college to get away from high school! Stupid people.

Wow. You nailed it here. I get so sick of some of the conversations I overhear when around certain "friends." No wonder many see me as aloof . . .

I've found my level of lone voice of reason (or lone voice of insanity, I suppose) rises exponentially once school starts up. I have two choices: homeschool or never set foot on campuses.

I work in a nursing home, with mostly women.

I wish it were like High School, but I'm stuck in Junior High I tell you, JuniorfreakingHigh.

I'm the crazy/old/crotchety/bitchy one.

Whoa - you have got it nailed. I was just recently asked my husband what the hell is wrong with us - we seem to be the only ones I know without a big dose of the drama/crazy going on. When did we:
a)become so normal, and
b)activate the looney magnet that draws all the nutbars to us like moths to a flame? Shove a butt, girl - I'm coming over to your island.

@faemom: I remember my mom used to tell me that these high school days were the best of my life. That idea frightened the shit out of me.

@CheekofGod: Maybe you can have a t-shirt made up: I'm not aloof, I just think you're stupid.

@Patois: I fear the day my kids start school full-time.

@Krishanna: LOL That's how I usually get through the day.

@random_mommy: Maybe someday we'll have a cup of coffee together!

@AFreeMan: That's what my husband says. Which makes me wonder about him.

@Creepy: Isn't it awful? It hard to find women to work with who do not fall into this pattern.

@I'm a Mom!: Thanks!

@Vulgar Wizard: Oh! Is that you over there?!? Meet you by the water cooler in five.

@BvB: You are welcome anytime. We'll brew some wicked coffee together.

Couldn't agree more! If that makes me crazy, too- so be it.
