Barefoot on a Beach Blanket

That is how I spent my Labor Day.

Barefoot. On a beach blanket.

At a Jimmy Buffett concert.

That's right! Woooooooo-fucking-Hooooooooo! Baby! My first Buffett concert ever.

We were told that we needed to head out early in order to witness tailgating of epic proportions. They weren't lying.

You haven't seen shit until you've seen men walking around with parrot heads glued to coconut bras wearing grass skirts.

And the grilling? Dude. People had grills in that parking lot bigger than I have seen at someone's house. Fantastic shit, man.

The concert was amazing. 27,000 people all swaying and singing about the beach, booze, and a slower pace of life. The lawn behind us was a sea of people, and I'm not ashamed to tell you I got a tad choked up watching so many people out enjoying themselves. No moshing. No fighting (that I saw). Just a bunch of people out to find a few hours of joy in this crazy time we are living.

Paradise, mon. Sheer paradise.

Hot damn! I haven't been to a Buffet concert yet, but I imagine it was great!

When we were in St. Lucia, there was a group of folks there who always traveled together. They had Jimmy Buffet blasting on their radio by the pool every day. Those folks were tanned, relaxed, and very, very snockered. :-)

Glad you guys got out for awhile!

Peace - D

Ooh! I like Jimmy Buffet! I heard him in a friend's car on my travels around the West Coast earlier this year, and came home and ordered a CD!

So, are you now officially a Parrothead?

When we were in FLA in the spring and went to Margueritaville, in their gift shop was a t-shirt that said "I AM the woman to blame". Should have got 2 - one for me, one for you.

You looked blissful. Or drunk.

Fun! Fun! Fun! Hubby and I have been to several Jimmy Buffett concerts over the years and they never disappoint. Once we went in February in St. Louis and it was so freaking cold...but there were still guys walking around in the sub-zero temperatures in nothing but coconut bras and grass skirts.

THAT'S Hard core! Once in Raleigh, these guys must have gotten there the day before, but they put up a huge above-ground pool, filled it with water and put a bunch of sand around it to mimic a beach. It was epic...how they got the water out there to fill up the pool, I'll never know!

Glad you had fun.

Awesome! I've been to one Buffet concert and it was rockin'! I would love to see him in the Keys, sing his Christmas music. That would just be the perfect topper. :) Glad you had a great time!

@RiverPoet: Mmmmmm. St. Lucia. I'd love to go sometime. Jimmy Buffett would be an excellent backdrop.

@Jay: Good for you! A couple of his songs were the only thing that kept me sane during those long winter months in Stockholm.

@BvB: I suppose I am. :) That shirt sounds just up my alley. Now I have a good reason to go to a Margaritaville the next time I see one.

And blissful? Yes! Drunk? No way. I am not going to waste my one afternoon away from the kids getting blitzed. A shared margarita was enough for me. :)

@K-Mom: That is so cool! There were a few kiddie pools blown up in the parking lot. I, too, wondered about the water. We've got def ideas about the next concert we'll go to!

@CMGD: Ah, beach Xmas music. There is nothing better.

@Toasty: Dude, eight hours without the little ones? It's amazing I didn't fall asleep in the middle of the concert it was so peaceful and quiet compared to the toddler noise at home!

I went to one in FL - the outfits were hilarious. The tailgating was amazing. Definitely something to be experienced.

Buffet is one of my guilty pleasures. I grew up with his music down in Fla. Been to a handful of concerts, worn the t-shirts. It is good stuff. It's a franchise now, but still. Play me Come Monday and I'm a happy man.

Glad you got to have that experience!

So jealous! I haven't been to a Buffet concert since high school. He's actually kind of a local around these parts. Sometimes.

woohoo! I've never been - they sell out way too fast around here. They look like a blast though!
